Residence Halls Closing, 3/17/20
Yesterday, Governor Kemp signed an executive order closing all public universities in the state following declarations of States of Emergency at the federal, state and now city levels. Most private universities have moved to remote teaching and if they have not already closed their residence halls, they are in the process of doing that in compliance with guidelines published by the White House in The President’s Coronavirus Guidelines for America.
Oglethorpe will be following suit and closing our residence halls effective Sunday, March 22nd at 2pm. We realize this poses a hardship to many of our students, but all of us living in this country or abroad are facing a new reality which will demand sacrifice for the good of others. It is important that everyone return home by the 22nd, or find alternative housing in advance of possible travel restrictions in the coming days.
EXPRESS CHECK OUT
For everyone’s safety, we are following the Express Check-Out Process. Express Check-Out Envelopes were distributed last week- additional ones are available from your R.A. or the Residence Life Office/Student Commons TLCC.
- Please remove your belongings and leave your room clean/clear of any trash or perishable items.
- Large dumpsters are available at Traer and Bowden Magbee and Dempsey. Please do not leave items or trash in your rooms– if you do, there are significant fines, up to $100.
- Place your residence hall room key in the envelope and sign the envelope indicating time/date of your check out. Place the envelope in the envelope drop box in the lobby of your Residence Hall, in the Residence Life office, or give the envelope to your RA.
Many of you have asked about refunds. We are working through these issues, but in the interest of time, our focus needs to be on public health and safety. We will provide additional information after April 1.
