COVID-19 Update: 8/12/20
Weekly update from the Oglethorpe COVID-19 Task Force
Continuation of Remote Courses for Fall 2020
As President Ladany announced last week, Oglethorpe will continue 100% remote courses this fall. View the full announcement, and frequently asked questions about this fall. The FAQs will continue to be updated as additional plans and policies become finalized.
President Ladany and members of the COVID-19 Task Force are holding a series of town hall meetings for the Oglethorpe community to address questions regarding the fall semester. A town hall for returning students was held on August 10, and for new students on August 12. Please continue checking your Oglethorpe email for details about these events and how to participate.
Public Health Consultation
Oglethorpe’s COVID-19 Task Force has been working with Canton & Company and Dr. Michael Consuelos in developing public health protocols for Fall 2020. Dr. Consuelos is a pediatrician and U.S. Army veteran who has held several leadership roles in emergency preparedness and pandemic response. The team has provided consultation and guidance on technology solutions for health screening and contact tracing on campus, and they continue to review Oglethorpe’s policies for those returning to campus this fall.
Health Screening App
Oglethorpe has partnered with Lifeguard Health Networks to provide a mobile app for students, faculty and staff returning to campus or conducting business on campus. Through the app, individuals will complete a self-health screening twice a day to track COVID-19 symptoms. The information collected will be maintained in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which protects records from disclosure. The app will notify individuals of further actions they need to take based on symptoms reported. Additionally, users can add a Circle of Care in the app so that parents, spouses, relatives and/or other close acquaintances can be updated on how they are feeling. Members of the COVID-19 Task Force are currently testing and troubleshooting the app for use on campus.
Instructions will be coming prior to move-in for students living on campus. Please look for an email as we approach the start of the semester for further instructions on downloading the app and creating a login with your Oglethorpe credentials.
