COVID-19 Update: 9/9/20
The latest update from the COVID-19 Task Force:
Students living on campus moved in this past weekend, and remote classes began yesterday. Remember to take the Petrel Pledge, wear a face covering, wash and sanitize your hands regularly, avoid large gatherings and continue to social distance.
Student Engagement Survey
Please check your Oglethorpe email on Thursday morning for your personalized link to a Student Engagement Survey. Oglethorpe is gathering information about how to best support students in the coming months. This short survey will help us understand how students prefer to experience events and activities and will inform critical decisions.
COVID-19 testing was completed for all students currently living on campus and administered by Peachtree Immediate Care. Additionally, staff working on campus were also tested and a number of faculty and staff working remotely also volunteered to be tested. A total of 239 tests were conducted on campus, resulting in three positive tests. One individual who tested positive has been cleared by physicians and is no longer considered an active case, as they originally tested positive over 20 days ago and are no longer experiencing symptoms. The other two cases appear to be asymptomatic. One individual is in quarantine on campus, with the other choosing to quarantine off campus. These cases did not result in any high-risk exposure for any other individuals on campus.
Oglethorpe is maintaining a COVID-19 dashboard on the COVID-19 website to inform the community of the current status of COVID-19 activity on campus. This dashboard will be updated regularly to reflect any new confirmed positive tests.
Students living on campus are officially observing the Petrel Pause at this time. This is an initial period of enhanced social distancing after move-in. This two-week period is critical to minimizing the spread of COVID-19 among the campus community, as it limits students’ potential exposure to COVID-19 outside of campus. The Petrel Pause could be extended beyond two weeks depending on the level of compliance, so it is highly important that those living on campus abide by the protocols laid out in the COVID-19 Handbook and observe the Petrel Pledge.
LifeguardRx Mobile App
All residential students are registered and using the LifeguardRx mobile app. Students are required to check into the app and complete a quick self-assessment twice per day. This health screening and surveillance app allows individuals to be referred to healthcare professionals in the event that they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and also assists in conducting regular health surveillance to assist with contact tracing.
Although the campus is physically closed to students living off campus, students may still access campus services and staff through email. Employees are working office hours remotely.
