COVID-19 Update: 10/22/20

The latest update from the COVID-19 Task Force:

All members of the Oglethorpe community should make plans to get a flu vaccination if you have not done so already. This is one of the many ways everyone can prioritize their health and safety as flu season and the COVID-19 pandemic take place simultaneously. For the latest on COVID-19 activity on campus and in the surrounding area, view our COVID-19 Dashboard. Remember to wear your mask, wash and sanitize your hands regularly, social distance, and practice the Petrel Pledge!

Spring Semester planning

The COVID-19 Task Force is finalizing spring semester plans. An announcement regarding the academic calendar and other spring semester plans is forthcoming. The task force is also finalizing a testing strategy for the spring semester, which will also be communicated when final.

A new Campus Protection Guide has been shared alongside the COVID-19 Handbook on the COVID-19 website. This document is intended to establish a campus planning framework and provide a guiding resource for the community. Each phase represents the status of campus operations and course delivery models based on ongoing assessments of both campus and community transmission rates. The task force will consult with the university‚Äôs public health consultants and the President to determine which protection phase will be implemented and when. Oglethorpe is currently operating in the red protection phase, and the anticipated phase of operation for spring will be announced ahead of the semester.

Members of the commencement committee met earlier this week to determine dates for commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2020. Again, an announcement of these updates will be shared once plans are finalized.

Randomized COVID-19 testing is taking place among those living on campus, with a goal of testing 10% of the on-campus population on a weekly basis. Results will be shared via the COVID-19 Dashboard
