COVID-19 Update: 3/18/21

Thank you to our entire PACA community for your commitment to the Petrel Pledge, the policies in the COVID-19 Handbook, and completing the daily self-health screenings through the LifeguardRx mobile app. These efforts have not been wasted, as cases continue to remain low among our campus community. As you interact with others in your Petrel Pods, please remain mindful of public health guidelines and campus protocols.

The entire Oglethorpe community should be practicing the Petrel Pledge off campus as well! Remember to wear your mask, wash your hands routinely, social distance, and avoid large gatherings. Also, be aware of vaccine eligibility requirements as they expand.

Oglethorpe continues to operate in the orange phase of the Campus Protection Guide and is open to Petrels Authorized for Campus Access (PACAs). This group includes campus residents, commuter students and authorized personnel. Campus remains closed to outside visitors unless preapproved by administration. Non-PACAs are able to request temporary access to campus through the request options on the home page of the COVID-19 website.

COVID-19 testing update

There are currently only two active cases of COVID-19 among our PACA community. A total of 2,697 COVID-19 tests have been administered on campus since the start of the spring semester, along with weekly wastewater testing of residence halls. A total of 20 positive tests have resulted from ongoing COVID-19 testing since February 3, 2021.

For the latest on testing and COVID-19 activity on campus, view the COVID-19 Dashboard.

  • Surveillance testing: PACAs selected to participate in surveillance testing should receive a prior notification email from with further details. Please note that this on campus testing is mandatory.
  • Off campus COVID-19 testing: PACAs tested for COVID-19 off campus must follow public health guidance and remain in quarantine until their test result is known. If you test positive for COVID-19 at an off-campus testing site, please report your case to so that the proper contact tracing can take place.
  • Daily check-in on LifeguardRx: Please remember to complete your daily check-in on the LifeguardRx mobile app, even on weekends and days you are not on campus. This will assist the case management team in identifying potential symptomatic cases and enable them to provide you with proper instructions if you do develop COVID-19 symptoms. If you experience issues with LifeguardRx, please contact

Approved film productions on campus this month

A production crew has been approved to access campus beginning Wednesday, March 24 through Saturday, March 27. The production has intensive COVID-19 policies and procedures. These films provide additional revenue opportunities for the university as the campus continues to operate in a limited capacity.

Filming will take place:

  • Thursday, March 25
  • Friday, March 26

Signage will be placed on campus to keep production staff separate from the campus community. Few disruptions are expected, as most filming will take place outdoors, including nights, with limited interior access to Hearst Hall and Dorough Gym. During filming, the production may limit pedestrian traffic in certain areas for a short period of time. As we continue to build these relationships, and privacy is important to both parties, please do not take pictures or post on social media about the filming occurring on campus. Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility!

COVID-19 vaccine

Georgia continues to expand eligibility requirements for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. View more information on current vaccine eligibility on the Georgia Department of Public Health website. As CDC guidance regarding vaccinated individuals remains limited, all PACAs are expected to follow the policies outlined in the COVID-19 Handbook regardless of vaccination status until further notice.

Report a concern or violation

It is important for everyone to follow the university’s policies to reduce the spread of COVID-19 on campus. Violating any of the policies outlined in the COVID-19 Handbook can result in conduct violations, and ultimately, removal from campus. Individuals can and should report COVID-19 violations, incidents or concerns anonymously at
