COVID-19 Update: 7/9/21

Preparing for Fall 2021

Oglethorpe University and the COVID-19 Task Force continue planning for a full return to campus this fall. To create a full campus experience, complete with in-person events, classes and programming, students, faculty and staff should return to campus fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Students and employees should acknowledge their vaccination status OR apply for an exemption as a medical or religious accommodation through the appropriate form, found below. Students must acknowledge their vaccination status by August 13, and employees must acknowledge their vaccination status by July 16. Students and employees who confirm their vaccination status by Thursday, July 15 will be entered to win one of three $100 Visa gift cards!

What does fully vaccinated mean?

An individual is fully vaccinated after two or more weeks have passed after receiving the second dose of a two-dose vaccine, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or once two weeks have passed after receiving the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

International students

International students who do not have access to an approved vaccine will receive assistance acquiring the vaccine once they arrive to campus. Oglethorpe is working with our public health consultants at Canton & Company on plans for accommodating international students who have received a vaccine not currently approved in the U.S.

Campus life this fall

Reaching herd immunity is critical for a full return to campus. Without this protection against COVID-19, a full campus experience is unlikely. The health and well-being of the community and a full student experience are important to life at Oglethorpe. In-person classes, gatherings and social events will be made possible through everyone’s commitment to be fully vaccinated upon arriving to campus this fall.

Employees should return to work on campus fully vaccinated or with a valid exemption on August 2, 2021. The fall semester begins for students on August 30, 2021. View the academic calendar for fall 2021.
