Oglethorpe is operating in the orange phase of its Campus Protection Guide in Spring 2021. Campus will be open only to on-campus residents, commuter students attending classes on campus, and authorized personnel. These individuals are known as Petrels Authorized for Campus Access (PACAs).

Cousins Center

The Cousins Center will be open at the listed times for access by students and faculty who are attending classes, as well as location for commuter students to study or break in between classes in the designated study areas located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building. Exterior doors will be unlocked/locked according to the schedule. Interior (classroom and lab) doors will remain locked at all times and only accessible by faculty or students who are enrolled in scheduled in person classes at that time. 

Turner Lynch Campus Center

The TLCC will be open in a limited capacity during the spring semester. Access to the dining hall and our Campus COVID-19 testing site are the primary functions of this building for the semester. The game room, Starbucks and Campus Store will remain closed as we begin the semester. Most lounge furniture has been removed to accommodate a testing site location on the first floor. The dining hall and 2nd floor atrium tables and chairs have been spaced to promote social distancing when in use. Please do not move tables and/or chairs. Please note that you must purchase a dining hall plan for the semester if you would like to eat in the dining hall. The A_LAB Exchange will also be open during the hours of 8 a.m-5 p.m. for any students who need access to a printer.

Lowry Hall (Library) 

Lowry Hall will be open for limited hours Monday – Friday and intended to be used as an additional space for commuters or residents to study or research in a safe manner, following our campus COVID-19 protocols. There will also be some classes scheduled on the 2nd floor. The Oglethorpe Museum of Art and Digital Media Labs will remain closed for the semester.

Gables Complex

The Gables classrooms will be opened prior to the first academic offering and closed after the last academic offering each weekday. In between each session, each classroom will be disinfected. Students and faculty are only allowed to occupy these spaces at their designated times for each class. There is to be no one in these spaces outside of those scheduled times to ensure that they can be properly cleaned. 

Hearst Hall

Hearst Hall will only have its exterior doors open according to class schedules within the building. Faculty and students can occupy assigned classrooms only at their designated times. Faculty who have offices in the building AND are in our testing protocols for the spring, can be in their offices outside of the listed times above. Please note that we are prohibiting gathering in the Hearst Great Hall for the semester. Commuters are encouraged to find space in Lowry Hall or the Cousins Center. 

Robinson Hall

Robinson Hall will only have its exterior doors open according to class schedules within the building. Faculty and students can occupy assigned classrooms only at their designated times. Faculty who have offices in the building AND are in our testing protocols for the spring, can be in their offices outside of the listed times above, as long as campus COVID-19 policies are followed. Commuters are encouraged to find space in Lowry Hall or the Cousins Center. 

Conant Performing Arts Center 

The Conant Performing Arts Center will only have its exterior doors open according to class schedules within the building. Faculty and students can occupy assigned classrooms only at their designated times. Faculty who have offices in the building AND are in our testing protocols for the spring, can be in their offices outside of the listed times above, as long as campus COVID-19 policies are followed. Commuters are encouraged to find space in Lowry Hall or the Cousins Center. 

Lupton Hall 

2nd Floor Classrooms – Any faculty or student assigned to a Lupton classroom is encouraged to use the middle north facing stairwell to access the 2nd Floor. This door will be open according the class schedule. 

Admissions Entrance – The Bimby Conference Room will be used for the spring semester as the designated location for any campus visitors who are NOT in our campus testing protocol but have a need to drop off or pick up items. This entrance will be open according to the schedule listed above. Further information will be issued about the use of the Bimby Conference Room and keyhole parking as it relates to visitors and guests accessing campus. 

Mail Room Entrance – The mail room will be open according to the schedule listed above for members of campus who are in our testing protocols AS WELL AS CAMPUS MEMBERS WHO ARE NOT. If you are not in the testing protocol and need to check mail or pick up packages, we ask that you take the following steps: 

  • Notify your supervisor or Campus Safety of your intent to enter campus 24 hours in advance
  • Perform a self-check of COVID-19 symptoms prior to arrival to campus
  • Park in the keyhole parking 
  • Keep your visit to pick up mail less than 15 minutes 
  • Wear a mask, please keep social distance (6 ft) 

Auditorium/Music Suite Entrance – These entrances will only be open according to schedules for student/academic use in the studios or the Lupton Auditorium. 

*All other exterior doors around Lupton Hall will remain locked from the outside and will be designated as “EXIT ONLY” 

* Faculty who have offices in the building AND are in our testing protocols for the spring, can be in their offices outside of the listed times above, as long as campus COVID-19 policies are followed. 


Additional recommendations

  • Reduce furniture in existing classrooms/labs to meet current social distancing standards within each space
  • Short-term conversions of larger spaces on campus to classrooms to allow larger sections to meet while adhering to social distancing recommendations
  • Addition of hand-sanitizing and disinfecting wipe stations in every classroom
  • In some classrooms that use tables for student desks, installation of Plexiglas dividers between students
  • Installation of new technology to facilitate hybrid learning
  • Disinfect all classroom surfaces daily above the standard daily cleaning, frequency to be determined
  • Disinfect all non-traditional classroom spaces (computer lab workstation surfaces, music and voice practice spaces, laboratory spaces, fine arts, etc.) in conjunction to the same frequency as established for all general classrooms, minimum 1x/day recommended
